Symptoms by Stage

All data must be read in conjunction with the survey limitations.

The graphs below show each of the symptoms categories individually and tracks there progression through the various stages of the benzo journey.

Before starting on benzos, survey respondents are reporting that the cardiovascular symptoms rate between not a symptom and mild. As the benzo journey proceeds this group of symptoms are rated as increasing. They are at there worst, at the worse point during withdrawal where they are rated as moderate. The next group who rated these symptoms as troublesome were the group who were 12 months off and not well.

Before starting on benzos, survey respondents are reporting that the dermatological symptoms rate between not a symptom and mild. As the benzo journey proceeds this group of symptoms are rated as increasing. They are at there worst, at the worse point during withdrawal where they are rated as between mild and moderate. There was improvement in this category for those at the end of their taper and in the worst point in recovery. The groups who were 12, 24 and 36 months off and not well rated this symptom between mild and moderate on average.

Gastrointestinal symptoms started between not a symptom and mild before taking benzos and again got to there worst, at the worst point in withdrawal where they were rated between mild and moderate. The group 12 months off and not well also reported these problems as troublesome compared to the 24 and 36months off and not well groups.

Like the symptoms above, the musculoskeletal category started with few problems and rose to its worse at the worst point in withdrawal. At this stage respondents were rating this symptom between moderate and severe. There was some improvement in the stages after this but it was still being rated between mild and moderate.

Neurological symptoms were similar to the muscular ones. They were rate low before starting benzos. They had become quite significant at the worst point in withdrawal. There rating improved a little after that but still remained high compared to before benzos were started.

Genitourinary symptoms were rated worse, at the worst point in withdrawal. The rating given was, on average, between mild and moderate.

Paradoxical symptoms were rated between mild and moderate prior to starting benzos and had risen to between moderate and severe at the worst point in withdrawal. For the group 12, 24 and 36 months off, but not well, the rating for these symptoms had dropped to between mild and moderate.

Psychiatric symptoms were rated between mild and moderate prior to starting benzos and had risen to between moderate and severe at the worst point in withdrawal.

The respiratory symptoms start off between not a symptom and mild and have risen to moderate at the worse point in withdrawal.
