These are descriptions of how individuals experienced various symptoms during withdrawal. While everyone's withdrawal is unique and symptoms will be different for everyone, it may be useful to know what others went through. All withdrawal symptoms can be caused by things in addition to withdrawal. If a symptom is persistent or you are worried by it, it is always a good idea to get it checked out by your doctor to ensure nothing else is going on. ______________________________________________________________________ Definition: The inability to think clearly. ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "You might feel a distinct inability to distinguish cause from effect. Or you might feel a serious cognitive delay, i.e., a noticeable period of time will elapse between any given action and your reaction (this makes such fast-paced things as driving on the highway, skiing, and rock climbing, where you must make split-second life-or-death decisions, decided no-nos). You may notice yourself stuttering or forgetting words. You may not be able to process information, whether oral or written. Even after parsing a paragraph two or three times, you still couldn't say what it's exactly about, and when people launch into long-winded explanations of things then ask for your opinion, you'll likely find yourself saying, "Huh?" Simple tasks like renting a movie or grocery shopping require complete concentration. Thirty-minute TV sitcoms are like sitting through Gandhi. Newspaper print is much too small and much too dense. Magazine articles look like Moby Dick. " - Matt ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "I just "couldn't" deal with most things. I would look at something like the income tax return, which I did by myself for years, and had to hand over it to my husband. My brain just was shut down. And try to listen to a discussion on retirement panning ... forget it. I just had to trust someone else on complicated issues. My fog was more like a curtain.
