Chewing Gum

The following are just ideas that some members have found to be especially helpful for dealing with the problems encountered in withdrawal.

"Most people see this as a very nasty habit. But if you must sit quietly -- at a meeting say -- and you're afraid you'll start biting your nails, tapping your toes, or clenching your leg muscles, gum is a good way to keep some part of your body in motion without giving too much offense.

I like Extra brand chewing gum. The "Winterfresh" flavor seems to last the longest, and I chew two sticks at at time. I probably go through two packs of gum a day. It also helps with my breathing, as it mimics the act of eating, which is often conducive to natural breathing, as is sex."
