These are descriptions of how individuals experienced various symptoms during withdrawal. While everyone's withdrawal is unique and symptoms will be different for everyone, it may be useful to know what others went through. All withdrawal symptoms can be caused by things in addition to withdrawal. If a symptom is persistent or you are worried by it, it is always a good idea to get it checked out by your doctor to ensure nothing else is going on. ______________________________________________________________________ Definition: (n) A feeling of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness. ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "You feel like life seems pointless, irritating, boring and sad. Everything is gray and useless. You're seized by paroxysms of guilt, every sharp word, minor transgression or unkind gesture you've shown to others coming back at you tenfold. You can't reason with this depression. It's chemical. All you can do is sit still and learn to take it. You can't remember feeling any other way. I felt a strong sense that everything, especially my life, was coming to a terrible end." - Matt ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: “This was only a problem for the first couple of months for me and it was mainly there first thing in the morning when I usually ended up in tears about something – after 2 months it gradually improved” - Anthea ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "I felt that my life was over. That the "despondent vegetable state" I was in was "all there was" to look forward to. So I was always asking my husband to "shoot me". It's actually funny now that I look back on it. It wasn't funny then, because I firmly believed that my life was over. NOPE .. not so anymore!" - Carter ______________________________________________________________________ My Coping Strategies:
