These are descriptions of how individuals experienced various symptoms during withdrawal. While everyone's withdrawal is unique and symptoms will be different for everyone, it may be useful to know what others went through. All withdrawal symptoms can be caused by things in addition to withdrawal. If a symptom is persistent or you are worried by it, it is always a good idea to get it checked out by your doctor to ensure nothing else is going on. ______________________________________________________________________ Definition: Problems associated with the organs of hearing. ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: “Almost as soon as I started to take Klonopin I started to get an ear that was blocked with liquid. It has stayed that way during my taper. Sometimes it feels better than at other times. The ear sometimes make strange clicking sounds as if it is trying to unblock. A strange symptom happened in the first 3 months off. I started getting a lot of ear pain, sometimes continuous and sometimes short sharp pains. The pain stopped me sleeping. I ended up seeing my doctor because I wondered if I had an ear infection. I didn't. The doctor seemed to think the pain was coming from a tight jaw and that made sense. The pain went after about 6 weeks” - Anthea ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "I have always had great hearing but benzos gave it an additional boost. All sounds would irritate me..... the Radio playing in the car was just too annoying and I would always turn it off, the large mowers mowing the golf course that I backed up to, the airplanes flying over head that did not bother anyone else, and the incessant Florida Green Tree Frogs croaking their frog songs all night long. I finally had to place a fan in my bedroom so the fan noise would help drown out their non stop croaking." - Carter ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "I get a lot of ear sensations like sharp shooting pains inside the ear, burning sensations inside the ear, occasional mild electric shock pains inside and outside the ear and coming up from the back and shoulders. I know its to do with withdrawal as I never had it before so I just try and ignore it." ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "Count me in for strange ear stuff...I saw ENT last week and there is no evidence of anything being wrong with my ears, so it must be the withdrawal...I have ringing, weird feelings of pressure and feeling like something is crawling in my ear (yeah nice one!), sudden diminish in my hearing for a few seconds, hearing whooshing sounds when I turn my head." ______________________________________________________________________ My Coping Strategies
