Teeth and Gum Problems

These are descriptions of how individuals experienced various symptoms during withdrawal. While everyone's withdrawal is unique and symptoms will be different for everyone, it may be useful to know what others went through.

All withdrawal symptoms can be caused by things in addition to withdrawal. If a symptom is persistent or you are worried by it, it is always a good idea to get it checked out by your doctor to ensure nothing else is going on.

Definition:  Sensations and pain associated with the teeth and gums

What I've Felt:

"You feel a faint electric current pulsing through your teeth, causing a disconcerting/painful "itching" sensation, especially in your front teeth. You may also notice a sensation of bone grinding on bone when you bite down. "

"I don't quite know how to describe this feeling -- it's too strange. It feels most like the tooth pain/headache you get from eating ice cream too quickly, but without the headache. For me, the teeth itching, electric current  and jaw pain are part and parcel of the same syndrome -- a general locking up of the head, face, neck, and throat muscles that made it difficult to talk. I kept my teeth clean -- I know this isn't a dental issue. It's benzos. "

"My teeth also hosted other alarming sensations:

bulletAt times they felt rotten and soft, as if they were coated in fur or rubber and were barely embedded in the mush of my gums, ready to drop out of my mouth
bulletAt other times they felt cold and delicate, as if they were made of bone china and might crack if I bit down too hard
bulletAnd my teeth and jaw were riddled with an electrical current "

What I've Felt:

"I would get places in my gums that would hurt and bleed on brushing and flossing. The only remedy for that was to be diligent in brushing and flossing and they would pass in a few days." - Carter
