These are descriptions of how individuals experienced various symptoms during withdrawal. While everyone's withdrawal is unique and symptoms will be different for everyone, it may be useful to know what others went through. All withdrawal symptoms can be caused by things in addition to withdrawal. If a symptom is persistent or you are worried by it, it is always a good idea to get it checked out by your doctor to ensure nothing else is going on. ______________________________________________________________________ Definition: Problems associated with the first part of the day. ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "The mornings always seem to be the worst part of the day for me. Whatever symptoms are bothering me, they always seem to be worse just after I wake. They then get better as the day proceeds and are often much better in the evenings. For most of my taper I felt like I was waking up with a huge hangover - this has been gradually improving. The explanation for this seems to be that naturally occurring cortisol levels are high at this time of the day, preparing us for waking and getting on with the day and it is this extra stimulation that revs up the withdrawal symptoms. I don't know if that is right." - Anthea ______________________________________________________________________ What I've Felt: "I continue to wake up at every half hour or so after 5AM. If I'm lucky I might doze until 7:30 or 8AM waking up every 20 minutes or so. At some point early every morning I lay there and the anxiety starts to kick in. It's almost overwhelming at times and it takes everything I've got to get up out of bed to get ready for work." ______________________________________________________________________ My Coping Strategies
